Businesses are closing all around you. You are getting nervous about your own fate as the economy slows. Existing clients are cutting back. What can you do to find new clients in a slowing economy? We have a few suggestions that can help you get more clients in so that you can weather this economic storm.
1. Go through your contacts. Make new clients out of your old ones. Draft a letter to your past clients from as far back as you can go that thanks them for their patronage in the pasts, reminds them of your address, phone number, new web address, email address, invites them for a tour of your new facility, announces new products or services that have been added since they last did business with you, offers them a discount, asks them for referrals, offers them a reward for referring new business, etc. Send the letter by email to those who you have an email address for or by snail mail for those you have a mailling address for. This is a great time to reconnect, update your client contact database, and find people who may have already been looking for you. 2. Update your website. You can find new customers on the web. Optimize your website for search engines so that potential customers can find you quickly and easily using Google or Yahoo. Make sure that the information on your website current, and that it is an accurate representation of who you are as a company. Check to see that all of your links are working, and that your website looks good in all of the most popular web browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. 3. Strengthen networks by sending referrals. Send new clients to others, and they will return the favor. Everyone can feel the pinch as the economy tightens. If you come into contact with a person who needs a product or service that you do not provide, but you know someone who does, get the contact information for that person, and call the service provider that you know. Send them the referral in writing, with a cover letter that includes a brief description of your company, and a business card.
